Local currency price estimates

Learn how TapNow calculates estimated local-currency prices and why exchange rates, payment providers, and conversion fees may affect the final charge.

TapNow subscription plans are priced in U.S. Dollars (USD) as the base currency.

To help you better understand the approximate cost, you can switch the displayed currency on the pricing page to view an Estimated Local Currency Price (for example, Chinese Yuan – CNY). The estimated local currency price is calculated based on the product’s base price and a reference exchange rate. It is for reference only and does not represent the final settlement amount.

How the estimated local currency price is calculated

The estimated local currency price is typically calculated using:

  • The product’s base currency price (for example, USD)
  • A reference exchange rate used by TapNow for display purposes

TapNow currently uses the following reference rate for price display:

1 USD = 7.0 CNY

This rate is used only for estimated price display on the page.

The system converts the product price into the selected local currency using this reference rate so that you can more easily view and compare prices.

Example

Product price: $30 USD
Reference exchange rate: 1 USD = 7.0 CNY

Estimated price:

¥210 CNY

Calculation:

$30 × 7.0 = ¥210

Why the estimated price is for reference only

The estimated local currency price displayed on the page may differ from the final charged amount. This may occur for several reasons, including but not limited to the following:

1. Real-time exchange rate fluctuations

Foreign exchange rates change continuously. The estimated price shown on the page uses TapNow’s reference rate (e.g., 7.0), while the actual payment may be calculated using the real-time exchange rate at the time of payment through Stripe.

2. Different settlement rules across payment providers

Stripe may apply its own exchange rate source and conversion rules during settlement. Additionally, different banks or credit card issuers may apply their own processing methods, which may affect the final amount charged.

3. Currency conversion costs

Cross-currency transactions may involve currency conversion costs, such as exchange spreads, issuing bank fees, or cross-border processing fees. These factors may affect the final settlement amount.

Example: Actual Payment Amount May Differ

Assume a product price of:

$30 USD

The pricing page may display (using TapNow’s reference rate of 7.0):

Estimated price: approximately ¥210 CNY
($30 × 7.0 = ¥210)

However, at the time of payment, Stripe’s settlement exchange rate may be:

1 USD ≈ 7.10 CNY

The final charged amount may therefore be:

$30 × 7.10 = ¥213 CNY

As a result, the final payment amount may differ slightly from the estimated price shown on the page.
